Sufyan ibn al-Samt said: I said to Abu Abdillah (pbuh): "Which are the nights in the month of Ramadan that are hoped to be the Night of Decree?" He (pbuh) said: "The nineteenth, the twenty-first, and the twenty-third." I said: "If a person is overcome by exhaustion or illness, which one should he rely upon?"
The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said: "When the Night of Decree arrives, Allah, the Exalted, commands Jibril (pbuh) to descend to the earth along with a multitude of angels. With him is a green banner, which he plants on the top of the Ka´bah. Jibril has six hundred wings, two of which he spreads only on the nights of Decree. He spreads them that night, and they extend beyond the East and the West.
Jibril and the angels spend the night among this nation, greeting every standing, sitting, praying, and remembering person. They shake hands with them and say 'Ameen' to their supplications until dawn breaks.
When dawn appears, Jibril calls out: 'O assembly of angels! O assembly of angels! Time to depart, time to depart!'
The angels ask him: 'O Jibril, what has Allah, the Exalted, done regarding the needs of the nation of Muhammad (pbuhp)?' He replies: 'Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, has looked upon them this night and has pardoned and forgiven them—except for four.' The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) was asked: 'Who are these four?' He replied: 'The one addicted to alcohol, the one who disrespects his parents, the one who severs family ties, and the one who harbors enmity.' It was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah (pbuhp), who is the one who harbors enmity?' He said: 'The one who severs ties with his brother and does not reconcile.'"

The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said: "The gates of the heavens are opened on the Night of Decree, and there is no servant who prays during it except that Allah, the Exalted, writes for him, with every prostration, a tree in Paradise, under whose shade a rider could travel for a hundred years without reaching its end. With every bowing, He grants him a house in Paradise made of pearls, rubies, emeralds, and pearls. With every verse recited, He grants him a crown from the crowns of Paradise. With every glorification (tasbih), He grants him a bird among the noble ones. With every sitting, He grants him a rank among the ranks of Paradise. With every tashahhud, He grants him a chamber among the chambers of Paradise. With every taslim (salutation in prayer), He grants him a robe from the garments of Paradise.
When dawn breaks, Allah grants him the company of the youthful companions, the refined maidens, the eternal servants, the swift noble steeds, the fragrant flowers, the flowing rivers, the delights that bring contentment, the gifts and presents, the robes of honor and distinctions, and all that the souls desire and the eyes find pleasure in. And you shall abide therein forever."

Humran asked Abu Ja‘far (pbuh) about the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: {Indeed, We sent it down on a blessed night}.
He said: "Yes, it is the Night of Decree, and it occurs every year in the month of Ramadan during the last ten nights. The Qur’an was revealed only on the Night of Decree. Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, says: {Therein is decreed every matter of wisdom}.
On the Night of Decree, everything that will happen in the coming year until the next Night of Decree is determined—whether it be good or evil, obedience or disobedience, birth, death, or sustenance. What is decreed and finalized in that year is inevitable, yet Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has the authority to alter it by His will."
I asked: {The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months}, what does this mean? He replied: "Righteous deeds performed during it—such as prayer, charity, and all forms of goodness—are better than deeds performed in a thousand months that do not contain the Night of Decree. If Allah, Blessed and Exalted, did not multiply the rewards for the believers, they would not be able to reach such levels. However, Allah increases their good deeds because of their love for us."

Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) saw in his dream that the Umayyads were ascending his pulpit after him and leading people astray, turning them away from the straight path. When he woke up, he was sorrowful and distressed.
Then Jibril (pbuh) descended to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, why do I see you sorrowful and distressed?" He replied: "O Jibril, I saw in my dream this night that the Umayyads were ascending my pulpit after me and leading people astray, turning them away from the straight path."
Jibril said: "By the One who sent you with the truth as a Prophet, this is something I was not aware of." Then he ascended to the heavens, and before long, he returned with verses of the Qur'an to console him. Allah revealed: {Have you considered, if We grant them enjoyment for years, then there comes to them that which they were promised, of what benefit to them will be the enjoyment they were given?}, And He revealed: {Indeed, We sent it down on the Night of Decree. And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months}. Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, made the Night of Decree for His Prophet (pbuhp) better than a thousand months of the rule of the Umayyads.

The supplication of Al-Hasan ibn Ali (pbuh) on the Night of Qadr:
"O One who is hidden in His manifestation, and manifest in His hiddenness, O One who is hidden yet not concealed, O One who is manifest yet not seen, O One who is described, yet no describer can grasp His essence, nor any defined limit can confine Him, O One who is absent yet not lost, O One who is present yet not perceivable, He is sought and found, and the heavens, the earth, and all that is between them have never been void of Him for the blink of an eye, He is not comprehended by ‘how,’ nor determined by ‘where’ or ‘place.’ You are the Light of light and the Lord of lords. You have encompassed all matters. Glory be to the One for whom there is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.Glory be to the One who is such, and none other than Him is such." Then, ask Him for whatever you wish.

From our master, Zain Al-Abidin (pbuh), it is narrated that he would supplicate with this supplication on the odd nights (of the month of Ramadan), whether standing, sitting, bowing, or prostrating:
"O Allah, as the evening falls upon me, I am Your humble servant, possessing no power over any benefit or harm for myself, nor am I able to avert any evil from it. I testify to this about myself and acknowledge before You my weakness, my lack of strength, and my feeble means.
So, send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, and fulfill for me what You have promised me, and for all the believing men and believing women of forgiveness on this night. Complete upon me what You have bestowed upon me, for indeed, I am Your needy, humble, weak, poor, and insignificant servant.
O Allah, do not make me forgetful of Your remembrance regarding what You have granted me, nor heedless of Your kindness in what You have given me, nor despairing of Your response even if it is delayed from me—whether in prosperity or adversity, in hardship or ease, in well-being or affliction, in distress or comfort, in difficulty or ease. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing of supplications."

It is narrated in some traditions that the Du'a al-Jawshan al-Kabir should be recited on each of the three Nights of Decree (Layali al-Qadr).

* The Virtue of Visiting Imam Al-Husain (pbuh) on the Night of Decree
Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said: "When it is the Night of Decree, during which every wise matter is determined, a caller announces from beneath the Throne on that night: 'Indeed, Allah has forgiven those who visit the grave of Al-Husain (pbuh) on this night.'"
Al-Tahtheb Vol.6, P.49
From Abdul Azeem al-Hasani, from Abu Ja‘far al-Thani (pbuh), who said: "Whoever visits the grave of al-Husain (pbuh) on the twenty-third night of the month of Ramadan, which is the night that is hoped to be the Night of Decree, and during which every wise matter is determined, the spirit of twenty-four thousand angels and prophets will greet him. All of them seek permission from Allah to visit al-Husain (pbuh) on that night."
Al-Iqbal P.212
Imam Al-Ridha (pbuh) said: "Let those who visit Al-Husain (pbuh) in the month of Ramadan be careful not to miss the night of al-Juhani, which is the twenty-third night, for it is the hoped-for night. He said: 'The least of i´tikaf is one hour between the two evening prayers. Whoever performs i´tikaf during that time has attained his share— or he said: his portion— of the Night of Decree.'"
Al-Iqbal Vol.1, P.358
Musa ibn Ja'far (pbuh) said: "Whoever visits the grave of Al-Husain (pbuh) on three nights, his past and future sins will be forgiven: the fifteenth night of Sha'ban, the twenty-third night of the month of Ramadan, and the night of Eid, meaning the night of Eid al-Fitr."

* The Visitation of Imam Al-Husain (pbuh) on the Night of Decree
Abu Abdullah Al-Sadiq, Ja´far ibn Muhammad (pbuh) said: If you wish to visit Abu Abdullah Al-Husayn (pbuh), then come to his shrine after having performed ablution shower and wearing your purest garments. And when you stand at his grave, face it with your face and place the qiblah between your shoulders, and say:
“Peace be upon you, O son of the Messenger of Allah, Peace be upon you, O son of Amir Al-Mu'meneen, Peace be upon you, O son of the Siddiqah, the Pure, the Lady of the Women of the Worlds, Peace be upon you, O my Master, O Abu Abdullah, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings.
I bear witness that you have established the prayer, and given the zakat, and enjoined that which is right, and forbidden that which is wrong; and you recited the Book with its due recitation, and you strived in the cause of Allah by the right way of striving in His cause, and you endured the harm at his side, expecting reward, until certainty came to you.
And I bear witness that those who opposed you and fought you, and those who abandoned you, and those who killed you are cursed on the tongue of the Ummi Prophet; and indeed, the one who slandered has failed. May Allah curse your oppressors from among those of the first and the last, and multiply upon them the painful punishment.
I have come to you, O my Master, O son of the Messenger of Allah, visiting you while knowing your right, being loyal to your allies, hostile to your enemies, perceiving clearly the guidance upon which you are, and knowing the misguidance of those who opposed you; so intercede for me with your Lord.”
Then, you lean over the grave, placing your cheek upon it. Turn towards the head and say:
“Peace be upon you, O Proof of Allah in His Earth and His Heavens,
May Allah bless your pure soul and your sacred body,
Peace be upon you, O my Master, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings.”
Then, you lean over the grave, kiss it, place your cheek upon it, and shift to the head side. You perform two units of prayer for the visitation and pray whatever comes easy after that. Then, you turn to the head side and visit Ali ibn Al-Husayn (pbuh), saying:
“Peace be upon you, O my Master and son of my Master, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings, May Allah curse those who wronged you, And may Allah curse those who killed you, And may Allah multiply upon them the painful punishment.”
You can then pray for whatever you desire. You visit the martyrs, turning from the feet side towards the qiblah and say:
“Peace be upon you, O Siddiqun, Peace be upon you, O patient martyrs,
I bear witness that you fought in the way of Allah, And you endured the harm for the sake of Allah, And you were sincere to Allah and His Messenger until certainty came to you. I bear witness
that you are alive with your Lord, receiving sustenance, So may Allah reward you on behalf of Islam and its people with the best reward for the good-doers, And may Allah gather us and you
together in the place of bliss.”
Then, you proceed to the shrine of Al-Abbas ibn Amir Al-Mu'meneen (pbuh), when you stand by it, say:
"Peace be upon you, O son of Amir Al-Mu'meneen, Peace be upon you, O righteous servant, Obedient to Allah and His Messenger, I bear witness that you strove, were sincere, and endured patiently until certainty came to you. May Allah curse your oppressors from among those of the first and the last, And may He place them at the bottom of the Hellfire."
Then, you pray in his mosque as a voluntary act, performing whatever you wish, and then depart.

The specific acts for the night of the nineteenth are to say:

Zad Al-Me´ad P.127
Amir al-Mu'mineen (pbuh) said: "Whoever prays fifty rak‘ahs on the nineteenth night of the month of Ramadan, reciting Al-Fatiha once and {When the Earth is shaken} (Surat Al-Zalzalah) fifty times in each rak‘ah, will meet Allah on the Day of Judgment as one who has performed one hundred Hajj and one hundred Umrah. Allah will accept all of his other deeds."
Al-Arba´un Hadis by Al-Shahid Al-Awal P.87
The supplication for the night of the nineteenth:
Al-Sayyid Ibn Tawus in Iqbal Al-A´mal mentioned it, and we found it in the ancient books of our scholars, may Allah have mercy on them:
"O Allah, to You belongs all praise for what You have granted me, for completing what You have concluded of my month, and that You did not end my term during it, nor cut my life, and You did not afflict me with a sickness that would compel me to break my fast, nor with a journey that would allow me to break my fast. So I fast it in Your sufficiency and protection. I obey Your command, I sustain myself with Your provision, and I hope for and aspire to Your pardon.
So complete, O Allah, Your favor upon me in this, and grant me a generous reward for it, and strip it away from me with the completeness of fasting and the purging of sins. And grant me to reach its end with a good conclusion and its best outcome, O the Most Generous of those who are asked, O the Most Munificent of Givers. And may Allah’s blessings be upon Muhammad and his pure progeny."
Another supplication for the nineteenth night, from the book of Muhammad ibn Abi Qurrah:
O You who existed before all things, then created all things, and will remain after all things perish.
O You, besides whom there is no god worshiped in the highest heavens, nor in the lowest earths, nor above them, nor between them, nor beneath them.
To You belongs all praise— a praise that none can fully enumerate except You.
So send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, a blessing that none can fully enumerate except You.
Another supplication for the nineteenth night:
O Allah, in what You decree and ordain from the fixed and destined matters, and in what You determine from the wise command on the Night of Decree, and in the decree that cannot be repelled or changed,
write me among the pilgrims to Your Sacred House, those whose pilgrimage is accepted, whose efforts are appreciated, whose sins are forgiven, and whose misdeeds are expiated.
And decree for me in what You decide and ordain that You prolong my life, expand my sustenance, and grant me the fulfillment of my requests. (Then you ask for what you wish)
Another supplication for the nineteenth night:
Another supplication for this night, narrated from the Prophet (pbuhp):
"Glory be to the One who does not die, Glory be to the One whose dominion never fades, Glory be to the One to Whom nothing is hidden,
Glory be to the One for Whom no leaf falls except by His knowledge, Nor a seed in the darkness of the earth, nor anything moist or dry, Except that it is recorded in a clear Book by His knowledge and His power.
So glory be to Him, glory be to Him, Glory be to Him, glory be to Him, Glory be to Him, glory be to Him, How great is His status, and how majestic is His sovereignty. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, And make us among Your freed ones and the happiest of Your creation with Your forgiveness. Indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
Al-Iqbal Vol.1, P.347
* Regarding the Night of the Twenty-First
Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said: "Performing ghusl on the night of the twenty-first of the month of Ramadan is a Sunnah."
Iqbal Al-A´mal Vol.1, P.359
Amir al-Mu'mineen (pbuh) said: "Whoever prays eight rak‘ahs on the twenty-first night of the month of Ramadan, the seven heavens will open for him, his supplications will be answered, and he will receive from Allah additional rewards."
Al-Arba´un Hadis by Al-Shahid Al-Awal P.87
Sama'ah said: Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said to me: "Pray one hundred rak‘ahs on the twenty-first night and the twenty-third night of the month of Ramadan, if you are able to do so, in each of them, in addition to the thirteen rak‘ahs. Stay awake on those nights until the morning. It is recommended to be in prayer, supplication, and humility, as it is hoped that one of them may be the Night of Decree and {The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months}, I asked him: 'How is it better than a thousand months?' He (pbuh) said: 'The deeds done in it are better than the deeds of a thousand months when there is no other Night of Decree in these months. It occurs in the month of Ramadan, and {In it, every matter of wisdom is decreed}, I asked: 'How is that?' He (pbuh) said: 'It is when the matters of the year are decided, including the delegation to perform Hajj in Mecca.'"
Al-Tahtheb Vol.3, P.58
Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said to Abu Basir: "O Abu Muhammad, the delegation for Hajj is written on the Night of Decree, as are the deaths, calamities, sustenance, and what will happen until the same night of the following year. So seek it on the twenty-first and the twenty-third nights, and pray one hundred rak‘ahs on each of them. Revive these nights, if you can, until dawn, and perform ghusl on them. I asked: 'What if I cannot do that while standing?' He (pbuh) said: 'Then pray while sitting.'
I said: 'What if I cannot even do that?' He (pbuh) said: 'Then pray while lying on your bed.'
I said: 'What if I cannot even do that?' He (pbuh) said: 'There is no harm if you rest a little on the first night. The gates of the heavens are opened in Ramadan, the devils are chained, and the deeds of the believers are accepted. Yes, the month of Ramadan was called Al-Marzooq during the time of the Messenger of Allah (pbuhp), the blessed one.'"

From Ismail ibn Mehran, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad (pbuh), who said:
"Whoever performs ghusl on the nights of ghusl in the month of Ramadan, he will emerge from his sins as if he were the day his mother gave birth to him..."
I asked him: "Is there any prayer on these nights different from the other nights of the month?"
He (pbuh) said: "No, except on the nights of the twenty-first and the twenty-third, for these are the nights in which the Night of Decree is hoped for. It is recommended to pray one hundred rak‘ahs on each of these nights, reciting Al-Fatiha once and {Say: He is Allah, the One} chapter one hundred times in each rak‘ah. If he does this, Allah will free him from the Fire, grant him Paradise, and intercede for him for the likes of Rabi'ah and Mudar."
Fadel Al-Ashhor Al-Thalatha (The Virtue of the Three Months) P.137
Sulaiman al-Ja'fari said: Abu al-Hasan (pbuh) said: "Pray one hundred rak‘ahs on the twenty-first night and the e twenty-third night, reciting {Say: He is Allah, the One} ten times in each rak‘ah."

Abu Abdullah (pbuh) said:
"O You who causes the night to enter into the day, and causes the day to enter into the night, O You who brings the living from the dead and brings the dead from the living, O You who provi
the Spirit with every wise command, Then send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, And place my name among the blessed, And my soul among the witnesses, And my good deeds among the high ranks, And my sins forgiven. Grant me certainty that will settle in my heart, And faith that will remove doubt from me, And satisfaction with what You have apportioned for me.
Grant me good in this world and good in the Hereafter, And protect me from the punishment of the Fire. Provide me, O Lord, in this world with Your remembrance, gratitude, desire, and return to You, with repentance and success for what You love and are pleased with, And for what You have enabled the followers of the progeny of Muhammad (pbut) to achieve, O the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. Do not test me by desiring what You have turned away from me by Your power and might. Enrich me, O Lord, with Your abundant provision through what is lawful, and keep me from the unlawful, And grant me chastity in my belly and my private parts. Relieve me of every worry and distress, And do not let my enemies rejoice over me. Grant me success on the Night of Decree, in the best way it has ever been observed, And guide me to what You have guided Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad (pbuhp), And (Then ask for what you wish), at this very moment.” until you are out of breath.
An addition not found in the narration: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, And grant me forbearance that will prevent ignorance from me, And guidance that You bestow upon me to save me from every misguidance, And wealth that will close the door to all poverty, And strength that will protect me from all weakness, And honor that will elevate me above all humiliation, And exaltation that will raise me above all degradation, And safety that will protect me from every fear, And health that will shield me from every affliction, And knowledge with which You will open for me every certainty, And certainty that will remove all doubt from me, And supplication that You will answer for me in this night, And in this moment, this very moment, O Most Generous, And fear that will bring to me every mercy, And immunity that will prevent me from sins, Until I succeed with it among the infallible ones in Your mercy, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy."

The supplication for the night of the twenty-first:
Al-Sayyid Ibn Tawus in Iqbal Al-A´mal mentioned it, and we found it in the ancient books of our scholars, may Allah have mercy on them:
"There is no god but Allah, the Disposer of affairs, the Director of times, and the Creator of all things with His wisdom, indicating His eternity and His precedence. He has established the obligatory rights for whom He wills, out of His kindness and mercy, so that a seeker may ask for them and one who hopes may expect the answer to their prayer.
Glory be to the One who created, and to whom the means are numerous, and the avenues are present. Glory be to Allah, Who is not afflicted by any want, and whom no need can humble, nor necessity surround. He does not fear the delay of the provision from any provider, nor the displeasure of a creator. Indeed, He is capable of extending mercy to the one who is overwhelmed by these difficulties and trapped within them, fearing and hoping in the One in whose hands are all matters, and to whom is the final return. And He is capable of whatever He wills.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant, Your Messenger, and Your Prophet, the one who conveyed Your message, clarified the guidance, delivered Your Book, and earned Your reward. He made clear the lawful and unlawful, and unveiled Your rites and signs. Indeed, this is the night that You have named the Night of Decree, in which You revealed the decisive remembrance, and You have favored it over a thousand months. It is the night of the gifts for the accepted ones, and the night of calamities for the rejected ones. Woe to the one who earns Your wrath in it, and woe to the one who is deprived of Your mercy in it.
O Allah, grant me the ability to stand in prayer during it, and allow me to gaze upon what You have honored in it, without the presence of an end to my life or its approach, without the interruption of my hopes or their loss. Grant me success in actions that You elevate, in supplications You listen to, in humble pleas that You have mercy upon, in evils that You divert, in goods that You bestow, in forgiveness that You decree, in sustenance that You expand, in impurity that You purify, in sins that You wash away, in debts that You settle, in rights that You carry and fulfill, in health that You perfect, in wellbeing that You increase, in scattered affairs that You gather, in diseases that You remove, in works that You sustain, in blessings that You reveal, in calamities that You avert, in children and family that You rectify, to have my enemies overcome and subdued, to be relieved from their threats and concerns, to have power over their strength, to dominate those who try to dominate me, to restrain their hands upon their chests, to silence their tongues from harming me, and to make their heads bow in submission to their chests.
O my Lord and Master, protect me from tyranny, from the fight against betrayal, and from its harm. Protect me, my Lord, from the evil of Your servants, and protect Your servants from the evil of all Your servants. Spread upon them Your blessings from me until You send upon me the good in the hereafter. Remember my parents and all the believing men and women with Your mercy and forgiveness, a remembrance of a lord near to servants and maids who have parted from their loved ones, and who have become silent in their secret whispers, mute in their calls, and are now buried in the dust, torn apart by time.
O Allah, You have made it obligatory upon me to honor my parents, and I have fulfilled this obligation by seeking forgiveness for them from You, for I have no power to fulfill it except through Your will. You have made their right upon me in my supplications, and I have forwarded that right to You, for it is in Your power, whereas I possess none.
O Allah, do not let me fail in what You have made obligatory upon me, nor leave me helpless in what You have decreed. And include me in every righteous prayer that You have answered. Include in my righteous prayer all the believing men and women, except for those who have opposed Your allies, fought Your chosen ones, and led corruptions when succeeding Your prophets, dying upon their misguidance and remaining in their error. Indeed, I disavow any prayer for them.
You are the One who holds every soul accountable for its deeds. You forgive the minor sins and punish the major sins. There is no god but You. Glory be to You; indeed, I was among the wrongdoers. So spread upon me Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful. And may Allah send blessings upon Muhammad, the Prophet, and his progeny, and grant them peace in abundance."
Another supplication narrated from the Prophet (pbuhp):
"I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone with no partner. I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. I bear witness that Paradise is true, and Hell is true, and that the Hour is coming, there is no doubt in it, and that Allah will raise those in the graves.
I bear witness that my Lord is my Lord, with no partner, no son, and no father. I bear witness that He is the doer of what He wills, the All-Powerful over everything, the Creator of whatever He wills, the Subduer of whom He wills, the Exalter of whom He wills, the Soverign over Dominion, the Provider for His servants, the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful, the All-Knowing, the Most Forbearing.
I bear witness, I bear witness, I bear witness, I bear witness that You are my Master in this way, and even greater than this. Those who attempt to describe Your greatness cannot reach its essence. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, guide me and do not let me go astray after You have guided me, for You are the Guide and the One who is rightly guided."

Abu Abdullah (pbuh) said: "In the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan, say each night:
'I seek refuge in the glory of Your noble face, that the month of Ramadan may not end or that the dawn of this night may not rise upon me while I have any sin or liability that would lead You to punish me for it.'"

From Abu Abdullah (pbuh): "He used to say every night in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan:
O Allah, indeed, You have said in Your revealed Book: “The month of Ramadan in which the Qur’an was sent down as a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
Thus, You have honored the sanctity of the month of Ramadan by revealing the Qur’an therein, and You have distinguished it by the Night of Decree, making it better than a thousand months.
O Allah, these days of the month of Ramadan have now passed, its nights have come to an end, and I have reached the state that You know better than I do, and which is accounted for by You more precisely than all of creation combined.
So I ask You— by that which Your closest angels, Your sent prophets, and Your righteous servants have asked You— to send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, to free my neck from the Fire, to admit me into Paradise by Your mercy, to bestow Your forgiveness and generosity upon me, to accept my devotion, to answer my supplication, and to grant me security on the Day of Fear, from every terror You have prepared for the Day of Judgment.
O my God! I seek refuge in Your Noble Countenance and in Your Majestic Glory— that the days of the month of Ramadan and its nights should pass while there still remains upon me a burden of sin for which You may hold me accountable, or a wrongdoing for which You may seek retribution, or a fault which You have not yet forgiven me.
My Master! My Master! My Master! I ask You, O there is no god but You, for indeed, there is no god but You— if You are pleased with me in this month, then increase Your pleasure upon me, and if You are not yet pleased with me, then be pleased with me from now, O Most Merciful of the Merciful!
O Allah! O One! O Eternal Refuge! O the One who neither begets nor is begotten, and none is equal to Him!
And frequently say:
O One who softened iron for Prophet Dawud (peace be upon him)!
O One who removed distress and great tribulations from Prophet Ayyub (peace be upon him)!
O One who relieved the sorrow of Prophet Ya’qub (peace be upon him)!
O One who alleviated the grief of Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him)!
Send blessings upon Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad, as You are worthy of sending
blessings upon them all,
and deal with me in the way You are worthy of dealing with me, and do not deal with me according to what I am worthy of.

It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) would fold his bedding and tighten his waistcloth during the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. He would wake his family on the twenty-third night and would sprinkle the faces of those who were asleep with water on that night. Fatimah (pbuh) would not allow anyone from her family to sleep on that night, and she would keep them from eating too much. She would prepare for it from the daytime and say: "He is truly deprived who misses the goodness of this night."

Al-Arba´un Hadis by Al-Shahid Al-Awal P.87

From Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi, from Imam Abu Ja'far al-Baqir (pbuh), who said: "Whoever observes the twenty-third night of the month of Ramadan and prays one hundred rak‘ahs during it, Allah will expand his livelihood, protect him from those who oppose him, and safeguard him from drowning, collapsing, and theft. He will be protected from the harms of this world, the terror of Munkar and Nakir, and when he rises from his grave, his light will shine for the people of the gathering. His book will be given to him in his right hand, and he will be granted a Absolution for fire, a pass over the Bridge, safety from punishment, and he will enter Paradise without reckoning. He will be accompanied by the righteous {the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the pious, and what excellent companions they are}.

[59]

Abu Abdillah (pbuh) said: "If a man recites {Indeed, We sent it down on the Night of Decree} chapter one thousand times on the twenty-third night of the month of Ramadan, he will wake up the next morning with strong certainty and acknowledgment of what is specific to us, and this is because of something he will witness in his dream."

From Abu Basir, from Abu Abdillah (pbuh), who said: "Whoever recites Surat Al-Ankabut and Surat Al-Rum on the twenty-third night, by Allah, O Abu Muhammad, he is certainly from the people of Paradise, and I do not exclude him from it ever. I do not fear that Allah, the Exalted, will write any sin for me because of this oath. These two surahs hold a special place with Allah, the Exalted."

From the two righteous (pbut) it was said: "Recite this supplication on the twenty-third night of Ramadan, in prostration, standing, sitting, in every condition, throughout the entire month, however and whenever possible, and whenever it comes to your heart. After praising Allah, Blessed and Exalted, and sending blessings upon the Prophet (pbuhp), say: O Allah, be for Your guardian, Al-Hojja son of Al-Hassan, in this hour and in every hour, a protector and a guide, a leader and a supporter, a helper and a watchful eye, until You make him dwell in Your land willingly and grant him authority over it for a long time.

O Allah, grant him victory and grant victory through him, and make Your victory for him and at his hands, and make the conquest manifest upon him, and do not direct the matter to anyone other than him.
O Allah, manifest through him Your religion and the Sunnah of Your Prophet, so that nothing of the truth remains hidden due to fear of any of Your creation.
O Allah, I seek from You a noble state in which You honor Islam and its people, and humble hypocrisy and its people, and make us among those who call to Your obedience and lead others to Your path.
Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.
Gather for us the best of both worlds, and decree for us all that You love in them, and make for us the best choice in that by Your mercy and grace, in well-being. Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
Grant us more us from Your bounty and Your abundant provision, for every giver diminishes from his wealth, while Your giving only increases Your dominion.

Abu Abdullah (pbuh) said: O Allah, in what You decree and in what You ordain from the determined matter, and in what You decide from the wise command on the Night of Decree, from the judgment that cannot be repelled or changed, decree for me to be among the pilgrims of Your Sacred House this year—those whose pilgrimage is accepted, whose efforts are appreciated, whose sins are forgiven, and whose misdeeds are absolved.
And decree for me, in what You decide and in what You ordain, a long life, an increase in my sustenance, and freedom from the Fire.

Al-Sayyid Ibn Tawus in Iqbal Al-A´mal: "O Allah, extend my life, broaden my
provision, strengthen my body, and fulfill my desires.
And if I am among the wretched, erase me from the wretched and write me among the blessed.
For indeed, You have said in Your revealed Book, to Your Messenger (pbuhp), 'Allah erases what He wills and confirms what He wills, and with Him is the foundation of the Book.'"
From the supplication for this night:
"O Allah, it is You whom I have turned to this night with my need, and by You I have
revealed my poverty and my request.
Let Your mercy and pardon encompass me this night. I am in need of Your mercy more than my deeds. Your mercy and forgiveness are broader than my sins.
Fulfill for me every need that is mine, by Your power over it, and make it easy for You to do so.
For indeed, I have received no good except from You, and no one has ever turned away evil from me except You.
I have no hope for my religion, my world, my Hereafter, or for the day of my poverty, the day I am lowered into my grave, and when people leave me alone with my deeds except for You, O Lord of
the worlds."
From the supplication for the twenty-third night:
"O Allah, make me among the most fortunate of Your servants to receive a share of
every good You have sent down in this night, or that You are sending down:
Of light that You guide with, of mercy that You spread, of provision that You distribute, of calamity that You avert, of harm that You remove.
And write for me what You have written for Your righteous allies, those who deserved Your reward and were safe from Your punishment by Your pleasure with them.
O Most Generous, O Most Generous, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and do this for me by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful."
From the supplication for this night:
"I ask You with the request of the humble, the needy, And I beseech You with the supplication of the sinful, wretched,
and abased, The request of one whose forelock is humbled before You, And who confesses his sin, so that his tears overflow for You, And his tears flow for You, his plans have failed, and his
arguments are cut off, That You grant me, on this night, the forgiveness of what
has passed of my sins, Protect me in what remains of my life, Provide me with the pilgrimage and Umrah in this year,
And make it an accepted pilgrimage, entirely for Your sake, And grant it to me forever as long as You keep me alive. Do not deprive me of Your visitation and the visitation of the grave of Your
Prophet, Muhammad (pbuhp).
O my Lord, I ask You to relieve me from the burdens of Your creation, both jinn and humans, Arabs and non-Arabs, And from every creature whose forelock You hold. Indeed, You are on a straight path.
O Allah, in what You decree and what You determine from the inevitable matters, and in what You distinguish of the wise matter in this night, And in the decree that cannot be rejected or altered, Write me among the pilgrims to Your sacred House in this year, Whose pilgrimage is accepted, whose effort is appreciated, Whose sins are forgiven, and whose wrongdoings are expiated. And grant me a long life, expand my provision, And grant me a righteous child, For indeed, You are capable of everything and encompass everything."
From the supplication for the twenty-third night:
"O Allah, I ask You with the request of the humble, the needy, And I seek from You with the seeking of the wretched, the poor, And I supplicate to You with the supplication of the weak, the blind, And I beseech You with the pleading of the sinful, the abased. I ask You as one whose soul is humbled before You, Whose nose is in the dust for You, Whose face is prostrated before You, Whose forelock is humbled before You, And who confesses his sin, so his tears overflow for You, His eyes shed tears for You, His plans have failed him, and his arguments have been cut off.
By the right of Muhammad and the progeny of Muhammad (pbuhp), And by Your great right upon them, I ask
You to send blessings upon them as You are deserving of this, And to send blessings upon Your Prophet and the prophet of Your Prophet. Grant me the best of what You have granted to the askers
among Your righteous servants, And the best of what You gave to the past believers, And the best of what You will give to those You create among Your allies until the Day of Judgment, Those
whom You have granted the best of this world and the best of the Hereafter. O Most Generous, O Most Generous, O Most Generous. And grant me, in this gathering, the forgiveness of what has passed
of my sins, Protect me in what remains of my life, And provide me with the pilgrimage and Umrah in this year, accepted and sincere for Your sake, O Most Generous.
Grant it to me forever as long as You keep me alive, O Most Generous, O Most Generous, O Most Generous. And relieve me of the burden of my soul, And relieve me of the burden of my family, And
relieve me of the burden of Your creation, And protect me from the evil of the sinners among the Arabs and the non-Arabs, And protect me from the evil of the sinners among the jinn and humans,
And protect me from the evil of every creature whose forelock You hold. Indeed, my Lord is on a straight path."

Abu Abdullah (pbuh) said: "In the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan, say every night:
'I seek refuge in the glory of Your noble face that the month of Ramadan may not end, or that the dawn of this night may not rise upon me while I have any sin or liability that would lead You to punish me for it.'"
Al-Kafi Vol.4, P.160

* Acts of the Last Night of the Month of Ramadan
The Messenger of Allah (pbuhp) said: "Whoever prays ten rak‘ahs on the last night of the month of Ramadan, reciting Al-Fatiha once and {Say: He is Allah, the One} chapter ten times in each rak‘ah, and says in his bowing and prostration ten times: 'Glory be to Allah, and all praise is for Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest.'
He should perform tashahhud after every two rak‘ahs and then complete the prayer with salam. After finishing the ten rak‘ahs, he should say 'I seek forgiveness from Allah' one thousand times.
Then, upon completing the supplication for forgiveness, he should prostrate and say in his prostration: O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor, O Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter and their Compassionate One, O Most Merciful of the merciful, O God of the first and the last, forgive our sins, accept our prayers, fasting, and night prayers.
The Prophet (pbuhp) then said: 'By the One who sent me as a prophet in truth, Jibra'il informed me from Israfil, from his Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, that he (the one who performs this prayer) will not raise his head from prostration until Allah has forgiven him, accepted his deeds for the month of Ramadan, and pardoned his sins, even if he had committed seventy sins, each greater than the sins of all people. Additionally, Allah will accept the deeds of all the people in his vicinity.'"
Al-Iqbal Vol.1, P.418
From Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Fayd ibn Mukhtar, from his father, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad (pbuh), he was asked about the visit to the grave of Abu Abdullah al-Husayn (pbuh). It was asked, "Is there a particular time that is better than others for this visit?" He (pbuh) said: "Visit him (pbuh) at all times and at all moments, for his visitation is the best action. Whoever visits him more often has increased in goodness, and whoever visits less, for him it is less. And be mindful of visiting him at the blessed times, for good deeds during them are multiplied, and these are times when the angels descend to visit him."
Then he was asked about the visitation of him during the month of Ramadan. He (pbuh) said: "Whoever comes to him (pbuh) humbly, expecting reward, seeking forgiveness, and witnesses his grave during one of three nights in Ramadan—either the first night of the month, or the night of the middle, or the last night of it—his sins and wrongdoings will fall away from him as leaves are blown away by a strong wind. And he will be as free from sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him. Along with that, he will have the reward equivalent to that of someone who performed Hajj and Umrah in that year." Two angels will call out to him, and their voices will be heard by every living being, except for the jinn and humans. One of the angels says: "O servant of Allah, you have been purified, so start anew with your deeds." The other says: "O servant of Allah, you have done well, so rejoice in the forgiveness and grace of Allah."

It is narrated that on the last night of the month of Ramadan, one should recite Surat Al-An´am, Surat Al-Kahf, and Surat Ya-Sin, and say "I seek forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance" one hundred times.

The Supplication of Imam Sajjad (pbuh) in Farewell to the Month of Ramadan:
O Allah, O One who does not seek recompense, O One who does not regret granting, O One who does not requite His servant for wrongdoing.
Your favor is an initiation, Your pardon is out of grace, Your punishment is justice, And Your decree is a choice.
If You give, You do not taint Your giving with reminding, And if You withhold, Your withholding is not oppression.
You thank those who praise You, And it is You who has inspired them to be grateful.
You reward those who praise You, And it is You who has taught them how to praise.
You conceal the faults of those whom, if You willed, You could expose, And You bestow upon those whom, if You willed, You could deprive. Both are deserving of exposure and deprivation from You, Yet You have built Your actions upon grace, And have made Your power flow with pardon.
And You received those who disobeyed You with forbearance, And granted respite to those who wronged themselves.
You wait for them, in Your patience, to turn in repentance, And You delay hastening their punishment, So that no one is destroyed except by their own doing, And no one is deprived of Your grace except after prolonged warnings, And after repeated proofs have been presented to them.
This is a generosity from Your pardon, O Most Generous, And an act of compassion from Your kindness, O Most Forbearing.
You are the One who has opened for Your servants A door leading to Your forgiveness, And You named it repentance. You placed a guide from Your revelation at that door, So that they may not lose their way.
Thus, You said—blessed be Your Name: "Turn to Allah in sincere repentance, Perhaps your Lord will remove your sins from you, And admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow." "On the Day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and those who believe with him, their light will shine before them and on their right, saying: 'Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us; indeed, You are over all things competent.'"
So what excuse remains for those who neglect to enter this station after the door has been opened and the guide has been set?
And You are the One who increased the rewards for Your servants beyond what was due, Seeking their profit in their trade with You, And their success in coming to You as guests, And their gain from Your generosity.
Thus, You said—blessed be Your Name and exalted be Your majesty: "Whoever comes with a good deed shall have ten times its like, But whoever comes with an evil deed shall only be recompensed with its like."
And You said: "The example of those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah Is like a grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear is a hundred grains, And Allah multiplies for whom He wills."
And You said: "Who is it that will lend to Allah a goodly loan, So He may multiply it for him many times over?"
And what You have revealed in the Qur'an of similar promises of multiplied rewards.
And You are the One who guided them through Your words from the unseen, And encouraged them with what would benefit them, For had You concealed it from them, their eyes would not have perceived it, Their ears would not have comprehended it, And their minds would not have grasped it.
Thus, You said: "So remember Me, and I will remember you. Be grateful to Me and do not be ungrateful."
And You said: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you; But if you are ungrateful, indeed My punishment is severe."
And You said: "Call upon Me, and I will respond to you. Indeed, those who are too arrogant to worship Me will enter Hell in humiliation."
So You named supplication as worship, And neglecting it as arrogance, And You threatened those who abandon it with entering Hell in disgrace.
Thus, they remembered You by Your grace, And they thanked You by Your favor, And they called upon You by Your command, And they gave charity for You in pursuit of Your increase. And in these acts, their salvation from Your wrath was secured, And their attainment of Your pleasure was fulfilled.
And if one created being were to guide another created being To what You have guided Your servants towards, He would be described as benevolent, Characterized by generosity, And praised in every tongue.
So to You belongs all praise, As long as there remains a path to praising You, And as long as there remains a word to glorify You with, And a meaning that can be directed towards You.
O You who endear Yourself to Your servants
through kindness and grace, Who has enveloped them with bounty and favor!
How widespread are Your blessings upon us, How abundant is Your generosity over us, And how uniquely have You favored us with Your goodness!
You have guided us to Your religion, which You
have chosen, And to Your creed, which You have approved, And to Your path, which You have made easy.
You have enlightened us with nearness to You And access to Your honor and bounty.
O Allah, You have made among the choicest of these duties, And the most special of these obligations, The month of Ramadan, which You have favored above all other months, Chosen over all times and ages, And preferred over all the days of the year By revealing within it the Quran and the guiding light.
You have multiplied faith within it, Obligated fasting in it, Encouraged prayer within it, And honored within it the Night of Decree, Which is better than a thousand months.
Then You favored us with it over all other nations, And selected us by its grace above the followers of all other creeds.
Thus, we fasted its days by Your command, And
stood in prayer at its nights with Your help,
Seeking through our fasting and our prayer The mercy You have exposed us to, And striving to attain the reward You have promised.
And You are the One fully capable of granting what is sought from You, The Most Generous in bestowing that which is requested from Your bounty, The Closest to those who seek nearness to You.
This month has thus remained with us as a time of praise, And has been a righteous companion to us, Granting us the best profits ever gained by the people of the world.
Now, as it reaches the end of its term, And the fulfillment of its appointed time, And the completion of its numbered days, It departs from us.
So we bid it farewell as one whose departure is grievous to us, Whose absence brings us sorrow and loneliness. It leaves behind upon us a binding obligation, A sacred honor to be upheld, And a right that must be fulfilled. So we say:
Peace be upon you, O greatest month of Allah, O festival of its allies.
Peace be upon you, O most honored companion among all times, O best of months in days and hours.
Peace be upon you, O month in which hopes were drawn near, And deeds were spread and accepted.
Peace be upon you, O companion whose presence was precious, Whose loss is deeply sorrowful, Whose parting is painful to those who longed for you.
Peace be upon you, O familiar friend, Who brought joy upon arrival and grief upon departure.
Peace be upon you, O neighbor in whose presence hearts softened, And in whose days sins were diminished.
Peace be upon you, O supporter who aided against Satan, O companion who eased the paths of goodness.
Peace be upon you, how many were freed by Allah in you! And how blessed is the one who upheld your sanctity through you!
Peace be upon you, how greatly you erased sins! And how perfectly you concealed all faults!
Peace be upon you, how long you were for the sinners, And how awe-inspiring you were in the hearts of the believers!
Peace be upon you, O month that no other days can rival!
Peace be upon you, O month that is peace in every matter.
Peace be upon you, never a burdensome companion, Nor an unwelcome presence.
Peace be upon you, as you came to us with blessings, And washed away from us the filth of sins.
Peace be upon you, not as one abandoned in weariness, Nor one whose fasting is forsaken in boredom.
Peace be upon you, O longed-for month before its arrival, O sorrowed-for month before its departure.
Peace be upon you, how much harm was warded off from us through you, And how much goodness was poured upon us through you!
Peace be upon you, and upon the Night of Decree, Which is better than a thousand months.
Peace be upon you, how eager we were for you yesterday, And how intense will be our longing for you tomorrow!
Peace be upon you, and upon the grace that we have been deprived of, And upon the blessings that have passed and were taken away from us.
O Allah, we are the people of this month, which
You have honored us with, And by Your grace, You have granted us success in it,
While the wretched ones were ignorant of its time, And were deprived of its blessings due to their misfortune.
You are the Guardian of what You have favored
us with, From knowledge of it and guidance to its observance.
By Your assistance, we have undertaken its fasting and standing in prayer, Yet with shortcomings, And we have performed little of the abundant acts within it.
O Allah, to You belongs all praise, As an
admission of our faults and acknowledgment of our negligence.
From our hearts, there is the bond of remorse, And from our tongues, sincere apologies.
So reward us for what we have missed in it, With a recompense that allows us to recover the sought-after virtue, And compensate us with the treasured rewards longed for.
Grant us Your pardon for the shortcomings in
fulfilling Your right, And extend our lives to reach the forthcoming month of Ramadan.
If You allow us to reach it, then aid us in attaining the acts of worship You deserve, And enable us to fulfill the obedience it requires, And let us engage in righteous deeds, That will serve as
compensation for our obligations in these two months of the year.
O Allah, whatever minor offenses or sins we have committed in this month, Or whatever wrongdoings we have fallen into, Whatever transgression we have deliberately engaged in, Or sins we have committed out of forgetfulness, Whatever injustice we have done to ourselves, Or whatever sanctities we have violated that belonged to others—
Send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, Conceal us with Your cover, Pardon us with Your forgiveness, Do not expose us to the eyes of those who rejoice in our misfortune, Nor let the tongues of the critics speak against us.
Engage us in deeds that serve as expiation and atonement For what You disapprove of in us, Through Your endless mercy And Your boundless generosity.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, Compensate us for the loss of this month, Bless for us the day of our Eid and our breaking of the fast, Make it the best day that has passed over us, A day that brings Your forgiveness and erases our sins And forgive us the sins that are hidden and those that are apparent.
O Allah, remove from us our sins as this month departs, Take us out of our misdeeds as this month ends, Make us among the happiest of those who have benefited from it, Among those who have received the greatest share, And among those with the most abundant rewards from it.
O Allah, for whoever has observed this month with true observance, Preserved its sanctity as it should be preserved, Upheld its limits with full commitment, Guarded himself from its sins as is rightfully due, Or drawn near to You with an act that earned Your satisfaction and attracted Your mercy—
Grant us the same from Your boundless generosity, And bestow upon us even more from Your infinite grace, For Your bounty never diminishes, Your treasures never decrease but rather overflow, The sources of Your kindness never perish, And truly, Your gifts are the most blessed of gifts.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and his progeny, And record for us the rewards of those who fasted, Or those who worshipped You in this month until the Day of Resurrection.
O Allah, we turn to You in repentance on this
day of our Eid, Which You have made a celebration and a source of joy for the believers, And a gathering and an assembly for the people of Your faith—
From every sin we have committed, From every evil deed we have performed, And from every ill thought we have harbored.
A repentance that is sincere, That holds no intent to return to sin, That never reverts to wrongdoing— A repentance that is pure, Free from doubt and hesitation.
So accept it from us, Be pleased with us, And make us steadfast upon it.
O Allah, grant us fear of Your promised punishment, And longing for the reward You have guaranteed, So that we may feel the sweetness of what we invoke You for, And the sorrow of what we seek Your refuge from.
Make us among those who truly repent, Whom You have promised Your love, And whose return to obedience You have accepted, O Most Just of all the just.
O Allah, forgive our fathers and our mothers, And all those who follow our faith, From the past and those yet to come, Until the Day of Resurrection.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad, our Prophet, and his progeny, Just as You have sent blessings upon Your nearest angels.
And send blessings upon him and his progeny, Just as You have sent blessings upon Your chosen prophets and messengers.
And send blessings upon him and his progeny, Just as You have sent blessings upon Your righteous servants—
And even greater than that, O Lord of the worlds!
A blessing that reaches us, Whose benefits encompass us, And through which our supplications are accepted.
Indeed, You are the Most Generous to those who seek from You, The Most Sufficient for those who rely upon You, And the Most Giving to those who request from Your bounty. And You have power over all things.
